During the Huawei Developers Conference (HDC) 2023, the Chinese tech giant unveiled the new HarmonyOS NEXT, which will provide a full HarmonyOS experience without any reliance on Android apps.
Currently, the HarmonyOS NEXT is being introduced to developers so they can create native apps just for HUAWEI’s own ecosystem. This new OS doesn’t use Android libraries and won’t accept Android APKs.
Essentially, HarmonyOS NEXT will be the end goal of HUAWEI as it doesn’t rely on anything from Android because everything will be made specifically for HUAWEI devices.
The interface, animations, and key features of the HarmonyOS NEXT are similar to the current HarmonyOS we’re already seeing in HUAWEI products. What makes it special is the ability to support native apps as the company prepares to be completely independent of Android.
In the official announcement, the software’s developer preview version will be available this month to enterprise developers and will be open to all developers in Q1 2024.
