The local manufacturing subsidiary of Japanese electronic parts maker Murata Manufacturing, Philippine Manufacturing Co. of Murata Inc. (PMM), announced the establishment of a plant located at the First Philippine Industrial Park in Tanauan City, Batangas.
Known for research and development, production, and sales of ceramics-based components used in devices the likes of the Apple iPhone, Murata Company has been in business since its foundation back in 1944 in Kyoto, Japan.
Established in 2011, PMM makes multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs), the Murata group’s main selling product, and has an estimated 3,500 employees in the Philippines.
Since beginning its operations, the company has played a contributive role in the country’s overall exports with a total export sales of Php68.6 billion in 2012.
Before the construction of the new plant, a signing of the Letter of Intent (LOI) between the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and Murata was conducted last February 10, 2023.
To coincide with the JPY 11.2 billion (or equivalent to Php4.4 billion) investment, Murata plans to expand its manufacturing capacity in the Philippines in response to the increasing demand.
The developing building will come in two stories and measure 77,981 square meters and will have a completion date of September 2025.
With a positive prospect over its MLCCs, driven by new technologies in cars like the Internet of Things (IoT), particularly 6G technology, and electrification of cars, Murata anticipates a substantial rise in the demand for its product in the medium to long term.
